The Winners are announced!
The final round of the Forge Hub 1v1 Showdown took place over the weekend, with the four remaining players competing for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. Let's take a look at how it all went down.
Third Place Playoff - WhyAmISoGood vs x33 Moosasarous
Coming into the playoff each player had had a somewhat different experience in the tournament so far. WhyAmISoGood arguably faced little competition until Tier 5, where he defeated II AK ZERO II in a close match that finished 2 games to 1, 42-35 in the kills. After losing to Rejecting You in the semi-finals 2-1 (24-16 in kills), he moved on to fight for the 1600 Microsoft Points third place prize. By comparison, x33 Moosasarous had a far more publicised route to the playoff, beating Penguinish and Furious D 18 back to back to upset many a prediction. As he progressed further in the tournament his support changed around to him being a popular man about town, largely due to his activity on the forums after having signed up originally for the tournament alone. Facing Zelf in the semi-finals proved just a little too much for him though as he went down 2-0, and yet the kill total was close, finally standing at 27-20.
And so they fought in a great last match that came close to the wire. WhyAmISoGood took the first game 13-9 and tried to capitalise in the second round but was almost upset as x33 Moosasarous came back strong to claim 8 kills to WAISG's 9. The third game also played out in nail biting fashion ending at 13 apiece, with x33 winning the tiebreaker 3-1. With the score standing at 2-1, the fourth game finished at 13-12 in WAISG's favour, winning him the match in heartbreaking fashion for x33, and earning him the 1600 points.
Final Match - Rejecting You vs Zelf
The final match featured two players who had come through 6 rounds, 6 maps, and not lost a single one. Rejecting You's rise through the Tiers was characterised by it's consistency and solid play, with notable wins over Matty in Tier 5 and WAISG in Tier 6. Zelf had many strong opponents and yet claimed victory over them all in the run up, proving his mettle and settling him in nicely. Notable wins were the Tier 3 10-10 stalemate decided 3-1 in the tiebreaker against I Robbo I as well as tough matches agains Supa Midget, LIGHTSOUT225 and x33.
The final match promised to be the closest seen in the entire tournament and it didn't disappoint. The first game ended with an 8-3 victory for Rejecting You, which he followed up with a 7-4 win in game 2. Zelf seemed to be gaining some momentum and knew he had to pull it out of the bag to stay alive in the series. He did just that and won 9-5 in the third game. Game four may have taken something out of Rejecting You as Zelf came up clutch as the clock read 0 seconds remaining to grab the last kill that broke the potential tie; 10-9. Game five was set and ready and this was where the winner would be decided. The final score read 10-7, the victor, Zelf, who picked up a brand spanking new copy of Rainbow 6: Vegas 2 on release. Rejecting You pocketed 3200 Microsoft Points for his trouble, which wasn't all that bad either.
