THE SUBMISSION DUE DATE HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL THURSDAY, MARCH 3rd.
Welcome friends, I have quite the news for you. Remember that ‘Really big announcement’ that graced the Site Update several weeks past? I’ve decided that your daily reading material, and very likely several long hours of your free time, shall be replaced with that! ‘That’ being the announcement of the next huge 2v2 tournament; Forge Hub’s 2v2 Throwdown... to an extent.
Somewhere along the line a decision was made that another boring old tournament would be not nearly enough for our community, so we decided to up the ante. We will get to the actual doubles competition eventually, but right now there are more immanent matters to attend to. And I don’t mean giving you the largest stake you have ever had invested into one of our contests- okay fine. Maybe I do. This time around, the special little chunk of meat we toss down from our lofty perch among the gods is a map. Hold on folks, it’s gonna get rough!
Wait, so the prize is a map?
No, silly, YOU are going to make the map. It’s a 2v2 forge-off to set up the 2v2 tournament, with first prize being the first-round map in the contest. This is the equivalent of a feature, and you get your map downloaded by every single person taking part in the tournament. This isn’t to say that we won’t take other maps from the contest; if we find five maps that are simply mind-blowing, chances are that we will take five maps for the contest. Every map that we decide to take into running for the tournament will be treated just like the maps designed specifically for the tournament. This means that no matter what you may think of your map, you still need to be open to criticism. We do plan to work with you and help perfect it so that the tournament will go off smoothly.
I herd u like gametypez!
We decided to make one, and by that I literally mean we made one. A single gametype, with no variations. Cursed broken settings made it impossible to even consider including anything outside of slayer! It even includes updated settings, such as 110% damage, speed, and jump. There are no starting armor abilities, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add them to the map if you feel so inclined. Health and Shield recharge have been changed to 110% and 200%, respectively. The DMR is the starting weapon. All of this was provided in the interest of giving you the best possible chance of creating one doozy of a map for the upcoming tournament. Enjoy your gift!
In case a description wasn’t enough, a link to the gametype can be found to the right. Like, right around HERE.
This gametype, like all good things, may be subject to change at any time.
Contest Rules:
All maps must be created on Forgeworld
Maps are required to support the Throwdown 2v2 gametype.
Maps have to support splitscreen
You may submit no more than one entry
Before you ask, I know you are wondering about how to make your map support splitscreen. It’s actually quite simple; make sure there is no framerate lag in splitscreen mode. Since this is a doubles tournament, it is totally feasible to imagine a team logging on to the same console for a variety of reasons. Because of this possibility, we have to be certain that all maps will support splitscreen gaming, and framerate will be a huge factor when determining the winners. So, go ahead and take the liberty of making things pretty, just also be sure to keep everything toned down just enough for those among you with a second controller. Or who knows, they may just take that controller and throw it down on your head!
If you have any questions about the rules, you may ask them here.
I don’t forge, just tell me about the Throwdown Tournament!
All in due time my friend, all in due time. If you read through this update, there just might have been a few juicy details for you to feast your bloodthirsty selves on. If that isn’t enough, then too bad for you. My contract only allows for one more little hint to be dropped, and the poor little guy isn’t even a fully developed idea yet. Let’s just say that the guys over at Astro Gaming have agreed to help us make it worth your while… One last thing; the contest ends mid-February. Thursday, February 17th March 3rd to be exact. This gives you four weeks to build, test, modify, retest, and perfect your map in time for the judging.
