Forge Hub vs Forever Forgers

Hi! It sure is nice of you all to join me here in my swimming pool; don't worry, bathing costumes are optional, dive in! Now, this is the story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down and I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there, I'll tell you how I became the Prince of a town called Bel-air Team Forge Hub faired in their latest SNF (Friday, July 2nd) against Forever Forgers. Big news guys, this time I was actually there!

Forever Forgers were our victims, our prey, our playthings to be toyed with, the gravy of failure to be poured over our chicken of win ... OK that's enough. Forever Forgers are cool dudes, dude; they're a Bungie.Net group that believe in a strong, active, and dedicated community to enjoy and spread Halo 3 content: mainly Maps, but also Screenshots and Saved Films. With over 1000 members, that's a pretty nice community they have themselves there, but how did their chosen representatives manage against our hand-picked killing machines in a duel of fisticuffs? We'll never know ... but I can tell you how our SNF went!

Team Chocolate Covered Unicorns!
Insane54 - "Hey guys, I got the snip--OMFG unicorns ... covered in chocolate!"
Roche178 - "Unicorns are on my six, no my twelve, they're on the whole clock! I'll never get into work on time!"
rusty eagIe - "My eyes! MY EYES!!! They're covered in dark unicorn residue all over!"
BuddhaCrane - "They say that chocolate goes straight to the hips!" *impaled in the waist by a chocolate unicorn horn* "Oh, the irony!"

Game 1: Multi Flag on Multicog

So, how did things start in our first match? Oh, you were expecting me to answer? But I was asking you! Very well then, if I must do everything!

If I'm honest, things were not looking good for Team Chocolate Covered Unicorns (CCU for short). I don't think any of us here at Forge Hub had played much competitive Halo in a while and we were all feeling rusty; rusty eagle wasn't amused by this and he said it was putting him off but, you know, a guy has needs!

During the whole game we never really secured any semblance of dominance. Forever Forgers had control of the power weapons for the entire match. We didn't even manage to grab a single flag capture. I tried my best to hold the team together, with my impeccable performance, but even that was not enough to rally the troops and regain some honour - the scoreboard will attest to this. Naturally then, we had ourselves handed a freshly baked pie of pwnage: it tasted of bitter humiliation ... and blueberries!

Final Score:
Team CCU: 0
Forever Forgers: 3

"Hi, I'm BuddhaCrane, you may remember me from such deaths as this one.
I have a very extensive catalogue!"

Game 2: Team Slayer BR's on Xenolith

While the first game could have gone slightly better for Team CCU (aka Forge Hub, aka Chocolate Covered Unicorns), we could at least console ourselves in the fact that we were now familiar with the mechanics of Halo 3 again ... well, some of us were; I was never familiar with the mechanics of Halo 3 in the first place! With the wind beneath our wings, we charged into the second game with more confidence and a chance to even the scores!

The second game was regular old Team Slayer but, of course, with BR starts! We had pick of the map this time round and we chose the recently(ish) Featured map Xenolith as our battleground. If there were weapons on this map I was not aware of them, we already had BRs right? There may have been a sniper rifle but that always seemed to promptly disappear in an Insane shaped blur; I actually got a hold of it at one point and, OMG, I actually sniped someone IN THE HEAD - I've never felt so empowered in my life ... then someone killed me, oh well!

It's fair to say that Insane, Roche, and Rusty were all showing real skill, grit, and determination in this game, perhaps fueled by the need to compensate for having me on their team. They each had a positive K/D spread, while no one from Forever Forgers could manage the same feat.

Despite my best efforts, I was unable to sabotage this game and drag Forge Hub down into the depths of humiliation and despair; such was my goal throughout the evening (what? You didn't honestly think I was that bad, did you?). Forge Hub won this round with a relatively confident lead but also knew that these members of Forever Forgers were no pushovers.

Final Score:
Team CCU: 50
Forever Forgers: 36

Blue team were too cool to look at explosions. We used this to our tactical advantage.

Game 3: MLG King on Hysteric

It all came down to this final game. Forever Forgers had shown us, in the first match, that they were a force to be reckoned with and, while we had mustered up a winning performance in the second game, we knew that neither side would be pulling any punches. It was all to play for - What exactly "it" was that we were playing for I'm not sure, but by god we were gonna play for it ... like champions!

Forever Forgers had the honour of the final gametype and map choice: MLG King on Hysteric. It was clear to us that this site battle was srs bsns when all the games we played were of a highly competitive nature. We raised our game to deliver the best we could offer ... well, the other members of Team CCU did, I kinda just ran around frantically making a bee line for the hill markers with complete abandon and disregard for my own safety - that's why I had the highest hill score; It's the only time in my life I've ever seen myself at the top of a leaderboard *sniff*.

What actually happened then? Well it was all a bit hectic really, as is the nature of KOTH. We were first to secure the hill, and there was an even passing of hill time between our two teams, but we maintained pole position due to that initial capture. It was a while before we realised the hill would even move as we said to each other "Does this hill even move?!". Whenever the hill did move though we always seemed to be in closest proximity to its new found destination, ensuring our consistent nabbing of the lead. During the final moments of the match we summoned up our mighty courage and endurance to hold onto the hill for those remaining points. Victory was ours!

Final Score:
Team CCU: 250
Forever Forgers: 205

"Oh wow guys I think I found the Elite Evade Armour Ability in Halo 3. Look I dodged the explosion!
Oh wait...never mind...I'm not getting back up."

The Score To End All Scores:
Team CCU: 2
Forever Forgers: 1

So, I bet after reading our first game synopsis you thought this site battle would end up as another failure for Team Forge Hub, didn't you?! It's OK you can admit it, so did I. To be honest, from my perspective it didn't feel like we actually won any of our games, although that may have been due to the fact that I was getting annihilated left, right, and centre. Thankfully though Insane, Roche, and Rusty were slick and well-oiled, like Arnold Swarchenegger preparing for a photo shoot.

Credit, of course, must also go to Forever Forgers, who were really great fun to play with and fantastic sports. We even played two more games with them. We played MLG Multi Flag on MLG Oasis, which they won - it seems they have quite the proficiency with CTF. We also played Teamwerks Slayer on Teamwerks Arena, which we won - this was such a blast and it's safe to say both teams really enjoyed this one. We didn't include those other two games in our write-up because the end result was the same and I didn't wish to keep you guys here any longer! In fact this swimming pool water is starting to turn green, we should probably all get out of this thing before our bathing costumes dissolve ... oh wait never mind.

Until next time folks!
