Site Update, July 19th
Sky scrapers ascend into the cloudy sky that blankets the city in darkness. The streets abandoned and littered with cars left behind by their owners. A convoy approaches a man made gate guarded by army personnel in Times Square with their guns at the ready. The army tanks crack the street's pavement as they roll speedily towards their destination. Torn-up, but still fully clothed, a solider runs in front of the convoy bellowing “They’re coming, run…. Run! Help me, please!" Without hesitation the tanks run over the distraught solider. His bones can be heard crunching beneath the tracks of the tank. A distinct shattering sound alerts the soldiers at the gate. They now have their rifles aimed in the air. Glass rains from above onto one of the tanks. Without warning a blurry mass of pink and black muscle cripples one of the tanks. “Cobra to base, I repeat Cobra to base. We got hostiles and we’re gonna need air support!” Another mass drops from a nearby skyscraper, just missing the second tank in line. Much larger than a human, the large weathered pink body is sprawled out on the concrete. The ground rumbles beneath the rear of the convoy. The ground breaks open and swallows both of the rear tanks whole. “Red Fox to Cobra, come in. Codename: Contention must make it to the LZ without fail.” Emerging from the debris an ambulance races toward the Times Square gates.
The gate opens. More soldiers pour through the opening while those monsters close the gap on the ambulance making a B-line for the open gate. The soldiers ready their weapons, waiting for them to draw near. A few moments later a monster grabs hold of the ambulance's bumper. The soldier’s motion to move forward, but the commander halts them. A swooshing sound approaches followed by the rat-tat-tat of a machine gun. The monsters fall over in agony. “Red Fox this is Eagle 2, we’ve got you covered.” The ambulance continues its journey to the gate with the helicopter following overhead. The gate breaks into pieces, crushing the soldiers. A gnarled head emerges from the dust and debris. A soldier makes eye contact and stammers backwards, but it’s too late. The large bony monster leaps forward and swallows the solder in a single gulp. The ambulance slams on its brakes and the helicopter fires a missile. Boom! It makes direct contact. The pilot cheers. “Red Fox, you’r- aw shit!” A chunk of asphalt makes arcs through the air toward the helicopter. The pilot tries to pull up, but it’s too late. The asphalt smashes into the helicopter and the twisted metal plummets to the ground.
The large monster reaches the ambulance, snarling at the driver and the contents. The monster's hind legs draw close to the ground as if ready to pounce. The driver's face is contorted in horror. A whistling noise grows louder and louder. The monster leaps toward the ambulance, only to be caught in mid-air by the feet of a falling hooded figure. The monster is driven to the ground. The hooded figure waves his hands as if he is letting the ambulance go. “I’ll take care of this. Go on ahead - you’re more important.” The ambulance doesn't hesitate and speeds past the gate. Somewhat unsteady, the monster rises from the pavement and slams its hooves on the ground. Standing opposite, the smirking the hooded figure declares,
"I always like a good fight.”
