Synopsis

Ever since Halo 3's mythic map pack forge addition, Sandbox, was released it had been a personal goal of mine to recreate the Gears of War 2 map as a Halo rendition. The only thing that held me back then was patience, time, and vision. After the modifications to the forging engine introduced in Halo Reach, I found the motivation to finish what I started on Sandbox.

For those who have not played Gears of War 2, Ruins is a symmetrical map based around a central bridge. Because the transition from a third-person shooter with limited respawning to a first-person shooter with respawns, many things were modified and/or removed from the map entirely (i.e. dead ends, weapon placement, etc.) but I tried to keep it as true to the original as I could.

Sniper spawns remain at the corner platforms on the side and Rockets replace the flame thrower at the top section of the bridge. Shotguns stand underneath the bridge at both sides where boom shield would be along with frags and Needlers are behind the stacks of cover are where. if it were still GoW2, there would be a Gorgon or Boltok. Other weapon are placed around the map in what seem to be reasonable places.

Because this wasn't original on my behalf, there is only so much I can say about this map. No doubt it will seem more impressive to those who have played the Gears version, but I hope that anyone who gives this map a download finds it both aesthetically appealing a fun to play on.
